OCHIN’s Abby Sears was honored to be awarded “CEO of the Year: Non Profits” by the Portland Business Journal. Abby was OCHIN’s first employee, coming to Portland after completing a master’s of health care administration and an MBA at the University of Minnesota. In 2000, after working at the Portland VA Medical Center for two years, she was offered a position administering a grant for Care Oregon. “That grant was the spark for the organization that is now OCHIN,” Sears said. OCHIN became a separate 501 (c) (3) non profit in 2003, the year she was promoted to Chief Operating Officer and Chief Strategic Director.
